Captain Morrill's Company - HistoryCaptain Morrill's Company is based on an American Revolutionary Militia Unit that had its roots in Epsom, NH. It was first known as Captain Andrew McClary's Company. Captain McClary was killed during the battle at Bunker Hill. Major Amos Morrill was promoted to Captain and the unit became Captain Morrill's Company. He was with Ethan Allen at the taking of Ticonderoga and was one of eight men to go into the enemy's camp at night and demand surrender “in the name of Jehovah and the Continental Army.” Amos Morrill left Epsom in 1793 with his wife, 2 daughters and 4 sons for St. Alban's Vermont. Today the Company has been formed for those patriotic citizens who enjoy the hobby of re-enacting colonial life of the eighteenth century. Our purpose is to bring history to life for today's citizens and instill a sense of our past in school children that they too might retain a sense of our Heritage won on the battlefields by our ancestors. It is important to note that while we attempt an accurate portrayal of events we strive to have fun while doing so. We teach. We learn. We enjoy what we do! |
